Vacationing in Virginia Beach? Be Prepared if Illness Strikes

Spring is a great time to visit one of the country’s most beautiful and fun-filled locations: Virginia Beach. Great as a Spring Break trip, a family getaway, or a couple’s vacation, there is something for everyone in Virginia Beach. As the weather warms up in the spring, the area’s many attractions shine and provide a great time for everyone. Whether you’re looking for sand and sun, history, or local events, Virginia Beach has what you want.

Beautiful Beaches

They don’t call it Virginia Beach for nothing. The city is home to long stretches of gorgeous beaches, kissed by the sun and tickled by the lovely Atlantic Ocean. For later in the spring (late April-May) the beaches make a great retreat. Most of the beaches are positioned along the Boardwalk (see below) or you can check out Sandbridge Beach for a more relaxing, remote location.

Virginia Beach Boardwalk

Virginia Beach’s famous Boardwalk is a 3-mile stretch of fun! Lined by beaches on one side and colonial-style street lamps and walking paths on the other, the Boardwalk is a blast. Various restaurants, hotels, and shops line this unique stretch along with street performers to entertain visitors. The Boardwalk is open 24 hours a day and is free for visitors to enjoy. As a bonus, a convenient trolley system connects many areas of the Boardwalk and surrounding city.

Military Aviation Museum

For history or aviation fans, the Military Aviation Museum is sure to be a hit. This excellent museum is filled with World War I and II era planes, including the world’s first jet fighter: the Messerschmitt ME 262. Explore the museum on your own or with the guidance of a group tour. For an extra charge, you can go for a ride in one of the historic planes. This museum is a fun, affordable attraction that should make your list of things to do in Virginia Beach.

First Landing State Park

Want to stand where the first Jamestown colonists did in 1607? Then First Landing State Park is the place to be. Just under 3000 acres of land are lined with over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails. You can enjoy a picnic lunch, camping, or even a swim away from the crowds in other parts of the city. The beautiful spring weather is a great excuse to spend some time outdoors, and First Landing State Park is the best spot to do so in Virginia Beach. With an entrance cost of just $7 per vehicle, it’s accessible to anyone.

Cape Henry Lighthouse

The Cape Henry Lighthouse was the first ever approved by Congress and was built in the 1790s. As a note, it rests on the land of the Fort Story military base, so you’ll need a valid ID for entry. Once you’re in, you can enjoy beautiful views from the top along with a picnic area and museum store.

Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

The Virginia Aquarium is a great place to visit for families and kids. Everyone will enjoy the over 300 hands-on exhibits. You can touch a stingray, horseshoe crabs, and more! You’ll see the Bay Ocean Pavilion with turtles and sharks and the Marsh Pavilion with otters, seahorses along with hundreds of species of fish. There is also a ropes course and a magnificent 3-D theater for guests of all ages. Be sure to stop by on Mondays in the spring for Mermaid Mondays to see a real live mermaid!

Seasonal Events

The spring is one of the best times to visit Virginia Beach and is complete with many events to check out. The weekend of March 16th hosts the annual Yuengling Shamrock Marathon for runners. March 24-25th sees the beginning of the Cherry Blossom Festival, a beautiful sight that can’t be missed. On May 5-6th you can be a part of the 10th annual Spring Town Point Virginia Wine Festival. For more events like Easter egg hunts, car shows, and concerts on the beach, check out https://www.virginiabeach.com/events.
