I went to Velocity last night (1/3/25) after having the worst barking cough since about Christmas Eve. I initially tried at-home remedies, thinking it was weather-related, but discovered that I should get checked out after a week of no improvement. I originally went to Patient First on New Year's Eve since they were my closest clinic. There, I hadn't gotten any standard tests for COVID, flu, RSV, strep, etc. Instead, they took 3 hours to take a chest x-ray, listen to my lungs, tell me I had bronchitis, and send me home with Prednisone. After a few days of taking Prednisone, continuing my over-the-counter remedies, and utilizing my albuterol inhaler, I hadn't noticed any improvements whatsoever, so I called a nurse advice line, where they advised me to head to Velocity. That was easily the best decision I could've made yesterday. My nurse was Shannika Mills, and all I can say is WOW! I can confidently say that she was the best nurse that I have ever been treated by. She was exceptionally compassionate and thorough in gathering information, and you can tell just how much she loves what she does and how much knowledge she holds. She was quick to take down all of my concerns, swab me for strep, flu, RSV, and COVID, and make sure I felt comfortable at every second. Luckily, all those swabs came back negative, but it meant a lot to have gotten those, especially since they are currently going around and I have a weakened immune system. After her exceptional care, I was greeted by nurse practitioner Travis Fermil, who was also extremely kind and personable. He got a good idea of my symptom progression, listened to my lungs, and discovered that I most likely had progressed to pneumonia. I was upset that the Patient First had taken shortcuts and failed to provide enough care and medication to prevent this, but I felt fortunate to have found Shannika and Travis. I am now going to be able to take doxycycline with my inhaler, and rather than DayQuil/Nyquil, I have switched to Mucinex Severe DM to loosen up any mucus in my lungs and tame this cough. I highly recommend seeing these guys if you have the opportunity! I was only in there for about an hour instead of 3, and I felt extremely comfortable and well cared for the entire time. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery from here!

First time visiting. I called to see if they took my insurance; yes. All the appts online were booked, I could walk in and i did. That's the only downfall, walking in. It was a lot of people walking in, myself included and the Kiosk for me, human error. After all the checking in and payment, I received text updates, my wait was about 2 hrs11min at 0947 to been seen. However, not feeling well, it was frustrating. Good news! It did not take that long. I was seen about 1045 or so. The front desk, the nurses, the NP were all very patient, so kind-hearted and very friendly and knowledgeable. Nursing and medical is a tough business. If I ever do, hope I don't, I would visit them again. All in all, I was there about 2.5 hours. I received my paperwork and still not feeling well, I need a new note, for work, (lol) and again without hesitation, I'll pick it up at the front desk. Thank you to the staff at Velocity Urgent Care, Wards Corner for taking such great care of all my needs.
