WILLIAMSBURG, Va., October 1, 2019 – Veterans in Eastern and Northern Virginia have an additional option for medical care. Velocity Urgent Care (https://velocityuc.com) now offers medical care for eligible Veterans Administration beneficiaries at its 14 locations. The care is provided under guidelines established by the MISSION Act, which became effective in June.
Veterans can receive no-appointment-necessary visits with licensed providers for treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, avoiding potentially lengthy drives to their regional VA clinic and a lengthy wait to receive medical treatment. To be eligible for urgent and walk-in care, veterans must be enrolled in the VA Health Care System and have received care through VA from either a VA or community provider within the last 24 months. No referral or pre-authorization is required. Many of Velocity Urgent Care’s medical team members are veterans themselves, giving them an affinity and appreciation for veterans’ needs and concerns.
Velocity Urgent Care services include digital X-rays and lab capabilities on-site. Most insurance is accepted, and there is a self-pay option for those without insurance. In addition, Velocity’s partnership with Sentara Healthcare enables referrals and data-sharing with more than 3,900 Sentara specialists and primary care providers.
Velocity Urgent Care operates 14 locations across Eastern and Northern Virginia including facilities in Carrolton, Gloucester, Newport News, Norfolk (2), South Boston, Suffolk (2), Virginia Beach (4), Woodbridge and Williamsburg. Facilities are open seven days a week. Patients can walk in or register online at https://velocityuc.com
Based in Williamsburg, Velocity Urgent Care is the fastest-growing urgent care provider in Virginia. Founded in 2017, it has grown to 14 locations in Eastern and Northern Virginia. As a member of the Sentara Quality Care Network (SQCN), Velocity provides data sharing and referral relationships for its patients who require medical services beyond urgent care.
The MISSION (Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks) Act was launched by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) to expand veterans’ health care options by offering greater choices and access to timely, high quality care within VA’s community network. There are some restrictions such as general wellness, preventive exams, and other non-urgent health care services. For guidelines and eligibility information visit https://www.va.gov/communitycare/
