WILLIAMSBURG, Va., July 8, 2019 – Velocity Urgent Care has contributed more than $8,000 to Virginia public schools and a $1,500 scholarship through an
innovative program designed to encourage student wellness and academic achievement.
Launched during the 2018-19 school year, the program provided reward funds to 16 school districts and two private schools throughout Eastern Virginia.
Through its School Physical Program, Velocity Urgent Care provided a $5.00 investment reward for each student who received a school or sports physical at any of its 14 locations. Students and their parents had the option of designating the reward to the school or organization of their choice.
“Through our partnership with local schools and school districts we have been able to reach desired wellness outcomes and enact change in students’ physical health,” said Velocity CEO Alan Ayers. “We are also honored, through our partnership with Virginia Dominion Energy, to provide a scholarship and encourage further education for a deserving student interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.”
Awards were presented to officials from Newport News Public Schools, Norfolk Public Schools, Virginia Beach Public Schools and Williamsburg/James City County Public Schools during a June 17 reception at Velocity Urgent Care’s Ward’s Corner location. The event was attended by Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander, and Virginia House Delegates Jay Jones and Stephen Heretick.
The $1,500 Velocity Urgent Care Scholarship was awarded to Neveah Saunders, a 2019 graduate of Norfolk Public Schools. Ms. Saunders will attend Delaware State University in the fall.
